A Day Late.....

Yesterday was Miss Shayla Rae's 26th Birthday. Don't worry, I didn't forget to say Happy Birthday on the actual date, I am just a day late to post it.

Happy Birthday Shay! I love you to pieces.

A Day at the Zoo

Saturday we decided we would meet up with Shayla and Leaira at Hogle Zoo. It was a little bit cold when we first got there but by about half way through it warmed up a bit. Kayden liked to look at the animals as long as they were moving, otherwise he just wanted to get down and run. Leaira was so cute with all the animals and how excited she would get. It was nice to get out for a day and see Shayla. We haven't seen each other for almost a year. It's pretty crazy how much life changes when you get older and have kids. Here are some pics from the day:

My newest goal.....

I've decided I'm going to start keeping a book of all of the cute and funny things that the kids say. Kinda like a scrapbook all about them and their cute sayings with phots and all. They all are so cute and say some pretty funny things, I really need to start writing them down. Plus it would be fun for them to see when they get older too. I absolutely love looking through old photo albums of when I was young, or watching old home videos. I think every kid should have something like that to remember the good times growing up.

Ok, so here is one from Ambria last night. We were at the table eating chicken and she had a drumstick on her plate. She picked it up and took a bite and says "mom, this chicken is on a bone." and Nick looked at her and said "yep, it's the leg bone." She replied "No daddy, I think it's a dinosaur bone!"

This one was from Ke'alohi. A few weeks back we had our friend Courtney over to babysit. When we got home we all hung out for a while, and were in one of those silly laugh til your belly hurts moods. Courtney used to live next door to us and has babysat for us off and on for a few years now. Courtney's sister (who also lived next door) used to call Ke'alohi some silly nickname. After trying to remember forever, they finally gave up and called Courtney's sister. The nickname she called Ke'alohi was BOLOGNA! So, Ke'alohi then says "I knew it, I knew it was some kind of cheese!" We all looked at each other and laughed and Ke'alohi couldn't figure out what was going on!

Anyone who knows me knows I really hang on to sentimental things. Anything I have that "reminds" me of something is like a treasure to me. I really want to give that back to my kids, so I am starting today with this. Wish me luck!

Excuse me, how much did you say?

With spring here and summer on the way, Nick and I have talking about putting in a patio out back. I really want something I can put a nice table set on and have a flat surface for chairs etc. Me being the penny pincher I am thought, "oh, concrete is the way to go I bet that would be much cheaper then a deck."

So, we have a couple of friends who have connections in the concrete business. Last week we had two different people come out and give us a quotes. The first bid was for a concrete slab about 25 feet wide and about 10 feet out off the back of our house, which is not super huge, but decent size.....ready for this.....$1200 buckaroos! The second bid was for a much larger slab, coming in at around $1500. UGH.

So now I'm thinking, IF we are going to drop that much money on simple concrete, should we just build a deck instead? Nick's dad works for a building supply company and thinks just maybe he could help get us a discount on the product. That would be fabulous. Now we just have to find someone to build the damn thing! Anyone have a suggestion?

Boys vs. Girls

I was talking to my mom on the phone on the way home from work last night and she asked me if Kayden had started saying any new words lately. I had to stop for a minute and think about it. He says mama clearly, and da da but really, that is about it. This month he is 17 months old.

I have heard stories from others about how boys do things so much later than girls, but I never really realized how much later until I had a boy myself. When Ambria was little she did everything early, excpet walk, which she did right about a year old. By 18 nonths old the little smarty pants would say full sentences, paragraphs even. I remember driving in the car one day when she was maybe 6 weeks older then Kayden is now. The radio was on, and Black Eyed Peas "My Humps" started to play. Ambria said plain as day "Mom, turn it up, this is my favorite song!". I couldn't believe it! My 18 month old was talking, better yet, her favorite song was My Humps! haha.

I guess I am not worried in any way about him not talking, but it just amazes me how much slower boys are. I can tell Kayden is smart. I am starting to teach him where things are by asking "Kayden, where are your eyes, nose etc" and he can show me some of the things I ask now. I know he will do things in his own time and at his own pace. Just goes to show how different men and women truley are. Maybe womans brains are just wired differently and we just "get" things earlier then men do. I mean, that doesn't seem to change at all later in life, so ya, I think I'm sticking to that theory for now!

Good Heavens.....

The other night Ambria and I were sitting at the kitchen island eating dinner. Out of nowhere she says "OW!" really loud and with pretty good emphasis. I turned to her and said "What's the matter honey, what did you do?" She looks back and me smiling and says "Oh nothing mom, that's just what Michael Jackson says, so now I say it too!"

HAHAHAHAHA oh that kids obsession with Michael Jackson! She reminds me so much of a younger, more innocent me. :)

Which Disney Princess am I?

You Are Snow White!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Pure and trusting. You are a gentle soul who can get along with just about anyone. Everyone you meet instantly falls in love with you. How can they resist? You have a pure, lovable nature that's irresistable. Just don't trust everyone who comes across your path.

Thanks Jessica, that was fun!

Now work it out!

Ok now this is cute! Every night before I take a bath I do a couple set of squats and lunges. Kayden decided today that he was going to copy me and do squats too. I got a kick out of that, but then look what happened when Nick did some push ups! I was so happy I caught this on camera. Man I love that kid!

Is it summer yet?

Rain today, snow yesterday.....oh man, I am so ready for summer!

When you have 5 kids and they are all stuck inside ALL WEEKEND long, you will understand what I mean! The weather man says it's supposed to be in the 70's this weekend. Nick says he won't believe it til he sees it. The week starts out looking great on their forecast, and as the days pass, the predictions start to get colder and colder until we end up in a freakin' snow storm!

I can't wait to hang outside with the kids, go swimming, just be WARM! My little man absolutely loves being outside. He would be out there all day if I let him, but until it's warmer and not so windy, I am scared to let him outside. What if he gets sick, again? Two hospital stays in 3 months is enough for this woman.

So, until then, I will just wait, and curse at the weather man like I usually do!

There's nothing like....

eating a bowl of ice cream with your best friend. :)

Introducing....

Princess Kayden!

No seriously, what is with his obsession with headbands and crowns? HAHA cute kid!

Food Glorious Food!

Oh, where do I start with this one. My beautiful blondie, my sweet darling mischevious 4 year old, Ambria. Now, that girl keeps me busy, I will tell you that much. Lately, I cannot get over her obsession with FOOD. It baffles me really. I don't remember having much of an appetite as a child to be quite honest. I mean I would come in for dinner when my mom would call me, but sometimes I would play so hard, I would forget entire meals.

When Ambria was a baby I unsuccessfully tried to get her to eat baby food. She really didn't mind the fruits, but when you tried to get her to eat any of the vegetables she would gag and cringe. So, for the first two years of her life, she basically lived on milk. I really worried that she would never develop an appetite and eat real food. I even talked numerous times to the doctor about what I could do to get her to eat.

Finally at about age 3 Ambria started eating. She was and still is a picky eater- macaroni, cereal, anything with sugar, but still very unfond of vegetables or anything healthy. Over the last year or so I have started to pay attention to her eating habits a little closer than I have in the past. At one point (a few months ago) she started asking when we were going to have meals and seemed very concerned that we might "miss" one. I really didn't notice in the begininning but she began to develop an obsession with food.

After finishing a meal she would ask what else she could have to eat. It was like she was never full. Then, I noticed her portions were twice the size at dinner then mine, or Nick's were. I thought, maybe she was going through a growth spurt, but this has been going on now for well over a year. She is a tall girl, yes, but right now she out weighs Nick's 6 year old boy by 15 pounds! She isn't what you would call fat, but she is solid, dead weight.

A few weeks ago Nick and I ran a few minutes after at work and picked up the kids late from Chrissy. When we got there Ambria was eating dinner with their family. After we got home and Nick and I were heating up something to eat, Ambria was extremely distraught that she didn't get to have dinner with us. I mentioned to her that she had just eaten a few minutes ago with Chrissy's family and she seemed upset. The next day when she got to Chrissy's house she told Chrissy "Chrissy, the next time I eat dinner at your house, could you please tell my mom that I haven't had dinner yet, so that I can eat dinner at our house too?"

If I let her, she would eat non stop the entire day. I feel bad, but a part of me feels like I have to limit what she eats or how often she eats, because if I don't, it could really get out of hand and be a bigger problem as she gets older. So now when I tell her she can't have something, or that she just ate and will have to wait, she will say "ok mom, but the next time I can eat, I should eat ______." or "maybe for dinner I can have ____ and _____". I just don't get it! What do I do?
