Excuse me, how much did you say?

With spring here and summer on the way, Nick and I have talking about putting in a patio out back. I really want something I can put a nice table set on and have a flat surface for chairs etc. Me being the penny pincher I am thought, "oh, concrete is the way to go I bet that would be much cheaper then a deck."

So, we have a couple of friends who have connections in the concrete business. Last week we had two different people come out and give us a quotes. The first bid was for a concrete slab about 25 feet wide and about 10 feet out off the back of our house, which is not super huge, but decent size.....ready for this.....$1200 buckaroos! The second bid was for a much larger slab, coming in at around $1500. UGH.

So now I'm thinking, IF we are going to drop that much money on simple concrete, should we just build a deck instead? Nick's dad works for a building supply company and thinks just maybe he could help get us a discount on the product. That would be fabulous. Now we just have to find someone to build the damn thing! Anyone have a suggestion?

OU-frickin-CH!!! We ran into the same problem. our whole backyard is just grass, but we want to put out our patio furniture. concrete isn't an option, so we think we're just going to build a make-shift deck, just a little platform with 2x4's. that will have to do for this summer, i guess. if you find someone who's giving away concrete for free, let me know. :)

Kevie wants to know how much bigger the slab was on your second bid for concrete, because the smaller slab (10x25) material cost would be around $525.
Even better...Kevie is willing to help you do it, and Matt has recently had concrete done in his yard, so you might want to call him and get some info.
Don't feel bad though...we're doing our back yard, and are into it about $3500 and we're just getting to the patio!
